The much-loved former Zoo Cafe will become a deli as its new owners announce a rough opening date.

Brew Hull and Of Slice And Men have teamed up and plan to open B-Side Deli down the Newand Avenue tenfoot previously occupied by Zoo Cafe until its sad closure last year. The vegetarian cafe had been going in various forms since the 1990s.

It was beloved for its quirky jungle theme, mismatched decor and pretty outdoor courtyard area. The menu served up huge portions of homemade food including sponge puddings and ice cream. At the time, it was very popular which made the closure even more surprising.

B-Side could open as soon as November but decorating and other jobs need to be completed first.

Brew is a cafe bar in Bond Street which specialises in coffee and craft beers and hosts events such as art shows. Of Slice And Men is a seriously delicious pizza pop-up that caters for festivals, weddings, and other events.

Announcing the exciting news in an Instagram story, Of Slice And Men owner Rob Woodcock said: "Right then I do believe I promised to drop some news today... we're getting a place.

"We'll be teaming up with @brew_hull and taking on the historic venue that previously hosted the legendary Zoo Cafe. Tom [Sowerby] will be in charge of the specialist coffee, beers and wines whilst I handle the food.

"We'll be running the place as a deli with fresh baked breads, cakes, sandwiches and, of course, pizza. There's a lot to sort out including licences, decorating branding etc but we're hoping to be open at some point in November. Give @bside.newland (B-Side) a follow and we'll be posting soon."
