Donning thermals and waterproofs, rather than his usual suit and tie, Tim Powell Partner at the Hull office of Scotts will be attempting to kayak across the English Channel on the 8th June to raise funds for Cancer Research UK.

Tim has been training hard over the last few months and every weekend has seen him ditch his more usual (and more comfortable) mode of travel, for a 3m long plastic boat.

When asked why he had decided to undertake this feat, he said “I think everyone knows someone who has been affected by cancer and they have faced greater difficulties than sitting (hopefully) in a kayak for hours on end.”

He will face numerous challenges on his 25+ mile journey including the shifting tides, large waves, weather conditions generally, dodging cross channel ferries in what is the busiest shipping lane in the world, not to mention the sheer effort that will go into paddling between England and France in a journey that will take all day.

Tim commented “This is probably going to be the hardest thing I've ever done in my life. Those who know me well will question my sanity but I'm determined to raise as much money as possible. I'm just hoping that I stay upright and don't have to swim any of it!”
