Andy's open charity shop in the centre

As part of its ongoing work to support the local community, Princes Quay has announced a new charity partner that it will support throughout 2018, part of which includes a new charity shop opening within the centre.

Grimsby-based Andy's at St Andrew's Hospice provides palliative and end-of-life care for children and young people aged 0-25 from Hull, the East Riding and wider Lincolnshire. Established in 1981, the charity has 19 stores across the region, with the new one at Princes Quay set to become its 20th when it opens on 12 March.

The store, which was secured with support from regional property specialists Scotts, will feature a collection of high quality second-hand and pre-loved goods, including clothing, accessories and homeware, at affordable prices. Shoppers can donate quality clothing and items in store. The charity also has Gift Aid and Loyalty options for customers, which help to raise an extra 25p in each pound made, at no extra cost to shoppers.

Shirley Kay, Retail Manager of the new store, said: “We are really excited to be opening this store in such a great location, which will give us a fantastic retail presence in the city of Hull.

"It is a real pleasure to be opening a store in a prestigious centre such as Princes Quay – it is a location that fits with our vision for charity retail in the future.

"This new store will support Andy's – the children's unit at our hospice, which supports 0-25-year-olds with life-limiting illnesses from across the region, including the East Riding and Hull.

"The running costs at the hospice currently stand at £4.8 million a year, and we have to find 82% of that total. This is why it is important to see an increase in our retail offering, which is a vital part of our income streams.”

The store will be located on the Centre's East Arcade, neighbouring KRCS, and is next to Claire's Accessories.

Sarah Smith, Princes Quay's Marketing & Customer Services Manager, added: “Each year we support a number of charities through our events and initiatives in the centre, but this year we wanted to do even more to focus our efforts.

“Bringing St Andrew's Hospice on board will give us more opportunities to help the charity raise much needed funds and I'm sure our generous shoppers will support them.

“In addition to the retail space within the centre, our management team will take part in a series of fundraising events throughout the year, so watch this space.”

The teams at St Andrew's and Princes Quay have been supported throughout by Scotts, which has offices in Hull and Grimsby, and advises the Hospice on its retail portfolio

Partner at Scotts, Ed Chisholm, said: “The Andy's retail outlets support the children's hospice at St Andrew's, which is a much-needed facility. It is important to remember that this is the only service of its kind in the region and as such, it is vital that the communities on both the north and south banks of the Humber support it.”

St Andrew's Hospice provides comprehensive, free care for patients with a wide range of progressive life-limiting conditions, including cancer, motor neurone disease and cardio-vascular diseases. The new store will support the hospice's children's unit – Andy's.
